Story Time works with individuals, donors, universities, communities, and both private and public partners. In Malawi, we partner with existing education and community structures, including government ministries, to improve the quality and access to education in secondary schools.

From our administration to our implementation teams, our organization consists of both Americans and Malawians. Our 14 international volunteers have been working tirelessly to develop Story Time and bring sustainable change to the communities we partner with in Malawi. Together, we work to illuminate each person’s unique story and communicate it to the world. With our international staff we take on issues such as:

  • HIV and AIDS prevention

  • Macro- and micro- economic empowerment and self-determination

  • Educational access for vulnerable girls and boys

  • Food security for students who may only eat once a day

  • Fine arts and physical education

  • Community support for students with special needs

Since 2013,

we have doubled the number of girls attending school, increased attendance rates from near 40% to near 100%, and every student we sponsor has gone on to the next grade.

Accolades

Our hands-on approach to student sponsorship means that students sign an agreement at the beginning of the school year and meet with our staff every month to check on progress. Our program focuses on coupling scholarship with support. The headteacher at our partner school has hailed us for our approach:

If all the organizations here had such a scholarship agreement, we would see such change in this community.
